Lee tables Price Chopper property purchase deal
Select Board · Meeting of September 1, 2026
Lee Select Board tables a purchase deal for the former Price Chopper site after sellers rewrote the terms. Board members said they had been negotiating for months on 88 West Park Street and were prepared to sign a purchase and sale agreement Tuesday, until a same-day counterproposal proved "unrecognizable" from what they'd planned; the board voted unanimously to table it pending review with town counsel. Members also voted unanimously to formally dedicate the 1.6-acre East Lee Park for permanent recreation use and to send Board of Public Works members a letter on bylaw changes headed to the October 1 special town meeting.
The board promoted patrolman Hunter Russo to sergeant on Police Chief Stephanie Burdick's recommendation, appointed Kathy DeVarrens and Lisa Sloan to the Community Preservation Committee, and approved a one-day beer license for the Taste of Lee event. A mid-meeting hack disrupted the broadcast, cutting off remote commenters.
