Lee Board Fields Public Comment, Takes No Vote on Dump
Select Board · Meeting of August 18, 2026
Lee residents press Select Board on PCB dump compensation, no vote taken. Woodland Road resident Jim Castanegro told the board his house sits 2,000 feet from a planned PCB disposal facility and asked what compensation residents could expect once dumping begins, warning "if we're going to get poisoned, why should we pay taxes?" Board members said the town's $25 million Rest of River settlement share sits in a stabilization account requiring a two-thirds town vote to spend, and that so far only interest has been used, to pay down the public safety building bond. A second commenter, Tim, cited a geologist's finding that the site sits on fractured bedrock and questioned a 20-nanogram EPA airborne PCB threshold.
The board separately approved, all unanimously, a revised parking agreement with the First Congregational Church, a conflict-of-interest clearance for 250th Committee volunteer Ann LeBeer, the appointment of Kristen O'Brien to the Community Preservation Committee, three election workers, and permit waivers for the Lee Lions Club and Berkshire Gas Company.
