Lee cuts fire siren hours, defers to chief

Select Board · Meeting of August 4, 2026

Lee Select Board trims fire siren hours and presses a cannabis grower on odor control. Board members agreed to shift the Main Street fire siren's operating hours from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. to 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on a trial basis, with member Bob saying he didn't want to "be the guy who makes the decision if somebody's house burns down" and deferring further changes to Fire Chief Ryan Brown. Green Theory Cultivation reported sealing three of four grow rooms and adding carbon filter fans facility-wide, with consultant Mike Land of Tech Environmental targeting a finalized odor-management plan by September; member Sean Gordon called it progress "in the right direction finally." A Mill Street resident, Claire, described bridge-crossing disputes as "very anxiety-provoking" and asked about a traffic signal, but MassDOT's recommended stop-sign plan stays in place until reconstruction, tentatively next summer.

The board also unanimously signed the September 1 primary election warrant and extended construction noise relief after readings topped out at 67 decibels, below the 70-decibel limit.
