Lee Conservation Commission orders peer review of hotel redevelopment near Barnes Brook. Civil engineer Glenn Seider, representing applicant Garden Management, presented plans for a four-story, roughly 75-room hotel to replace an aging motel at 165 Housatonic Street, prompting residents Rebecca Bircher and Paul Steven to raise concerns about erosion, upstream flooding and brook wildlife. The commission voted unanimously to require an independent third-party peer review of the stormwater and floodplain compensation plans, funded by the applicant under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 44, Section 53G, and continued the hearing to June 17.

"So I would just as a homeowner, I do have concerns about the erosion," Bircher said. Resident Mark Stinson submitted written comments by email hours before the meeting that commissioners said still need to be resolved. The commission also continued a certificate of compliance for the Laurel Lake public boat access and ratified emergency removal of a hazardous tree at 200 Antelope Drive.
